ation....Had been
taking place (unbeknownst to me) the whole time. As I pursued
hard work, commitment, sacrifice and higher-learning inside and
outside of Universities and Colleges something unfathomable had
been evolving around me. The Law of Attraction had begun
revealing itself. It was unfolding before me predominantly in
the lives of two friends, although they themselves were not
conscious of it!
There was
Bob, whom I had worked with while first attending college. Bob
was the janitor while I was a bartender for weddings, banquets
and receptions. I’m not sure that Bob even had completed high
school but, he was focused on wealth. He was always doing
something to make a few extra bucks. He would clean people’s
vehicles, work extra hours, buy and resell cars, all kinds of
little things like that.
Bob would
always speak of wealth and even marrying into money (which he
eventually did)! He ultimately, began his own small business
which in time had garnered him so much money .. he was hiding it
in his basement in the freezer and duct work. In the course of
his business he would happen upon fantastic deals on office
furniture and would resell it at a huge profit. Once at an
auction, Bob bid on and won a “surprise” box. He paid 15 bucks
for it not even knowing what was in it. Turned out to be full of
goodies. One of the items, of which there were several, he was
able to resell at 500 bucks apiece!
Yes, it
seemed that whatever Bob touched .. turned to gold! He paid off
his mortgage at a very early age, took out an extremely high
line of credit which he never intended to use. He just did it
out of spite because when he needed it the bank had declined his
application. He built a huge garage as a way of both hiding and
getting rid of all of the money he had hidden in his basement.
On the
other end of the extreme was my lifelong friend Tucker or Jim as
was his nickname (it’s a long story). Tucker was a jovial fellow
who was always up for a good time. He liked to drink and smoke
pot. That was his thing. Although he would work from time to
time, nothing ever seemed to stick. It just wasn’t in his blood.
I remember him bumming around looking for a job as a high-school
dropout when I was going to secondary school. He eventually
landed a job peeling potatoes for a fruit and vegetable company
that delivered its goods to restaurants and fast food places.
Tucker
would call me every Tuesday after school to come and meet him at
work. It was payday! All these guys were paid on Tuesdays
because there was a better chance that they’d be at work on
Wednesday than if they’d been paid on say Thursday and expected
at work on Friday. So off I’d go to meet him and he’d cash that
paycheque and we’d live like kings for a day sometimes maybe
two. He’d spend it all. Nothing ever went into the bank for the
future or a rainy day. He never had any concerns for the future.
The years
went by and many things changed but, not the way my friend
Tucker lived his life. He generally worked at the fruit and
vegetable place for several months, would get fired and go on
un-employment. Then after a few months he’d get re-hired at the
same place and the circle would just continue on and on.
In time he
met a girl and moved in with her and that was it. I don’t think
that he ever worked again. She, much like him, enjoyed the drink
but, she was able to maintain a job. He would have guys come
over every day of the week and drink beer and smoke pot. His
only job was to do a little vacuuming, dusting and make dinner.
This scenario went on for some 20 years believe it or not. Then
finally, the bough broke and she threw him out. But, wouldn’t
you know it .. in short order he met someone just like her and
he soon became the new woman’s house-husband. This was his life.
It was all he’d ever desired. All he’d ever focused on.
I want to
wrap this up but, I just recalled the owner of the fruit and
vegetable concern and I believe it is something that should be
further focused on. In short the business was 49% owned by John
and 51% owned by Lloyd who also owned a larger and more
profitable fruit and vegetable business in the upper level of
the same building.
Although
John’s employees would steal cases of butter, eggs, cheese,
fruit and anything else that they could resell for a quick buck,
he was making a fortune in this business. Even though there were
a number of John’s customers that went bankrupt owing him
sometimes thousands of dollars he was making a fortune in the
business. Even though the 51% holder Lloyd would take the good
stuff out of their shipments and leave John the sub-par
leftovers, he was making a fortune in the business. Even though
John was not the brightest of individuals and if you were to
look up “Big Dumb Guy” in the dictionary, there you’d find his
picture. Still he was making a fortune in the business.
So... what
does all of this have to to with
The Law of
Attraction
